This book, originally written to my three children, is my personal story about the ten steps I took to create my diversified portfolio and achieve financial security. I want my children to know these ten steps and to understand that if they are to achieve financial security, they need to take ownership of their own financial situation and create their own financial security. Financial security is an individual responsibility. You cannot pass this responsibility off to your financial advisor or your broker or your spouse. You need to take ownership of your own future and your own finances. After I wrote the first draft of this book I asked a few people to read the draft and give me feedback. I was excited to learn that others were encouraging me to share this book to a wide audience and not just limit this book to my children. My hope is that anyone that wants to achieve financial security can learn from this book.
Biographical Note
After retiring from twenty years in the Air Force, I went on to serve in executive management positions with annual revenues of up to $160 million, including Corporate Vice President at SAIC, President and COO of McClendon Corporation, and President and co-owner at Intelligence Consulting Enterprise Solutions, Inc., providing support to various U.S. government agencies. In 2013, I started The Unconventional Strategist to provide one-on-one business and management consulting services to companies of all sizes. My specialties and background include business startup and consulting, executive consulting-coaching, systems engineering, and systems integration in the commercial market as well as the Department of Defense (DOD), and Intelligence Community (IC) sectors. Additionally, I have ownership in multiple businesses that I founded or co-founded that operate in the commercial, DOD and IC markets. You can own one or more companies, too, if that is what you chose to do. I admit, it takes hard work, and it takes time. When I look back over my twenty years in the Air Force, I never gave much thought to owning my own business, let alone owning more than one. Instead, I focused on doing the best I could in whatever job I had. When I became a contractor, I started to get the entrepreneurial bug and to think about owning my own business and setting my own agenda. This book is the story of my personal journey as I set my own path, followed my own agenda, created my own businesses and ultimately achieved Financial Security in Ten Steps. Tommy Keith
