Perhaps the perfect children’s bedtime book, Goodnight Moon is a short poem of goodnight wishes from a young rabbit preparing for—or attempting to postpone—his own slumber. He says goodnight to every object in sight and within earshot, including the “quiet old lady whispering hush.” Clement Hurd’s illustrations are simple and effective, alternating between small ink drawings and wide, brightly colored views of the little rabbit’s room.
Finding all of the items mentioned throughout the book within the pictures is a good bedtime activity—a reappearing little mouse is particularly pesky. By the end of the little rabbit’s goodnight poem, the story has quieted to a whisper, and the drawings have darkened with nightfall. As you turn the last page, you can expect a sleepy smile and at least a yawn or two.

玛格丽特·怀兹·布朗，1910年出生于纽约。玛格丽特是一位绝顶聪明、才华横溢的传奇女子。她不但为孩子写了10多本童书，更与一群好友一起为儿童文学的教育、创作与出版开拓出影响深远的天地。虽然她从来没有结过婚，也没有自己的孩子，但是她却对孩子，特别是幼儿期的孩子的心理、情绪和兴趣有着深刻的认识。她擅长用精简、游戏性、有韵的优美文字来铺陈故事，不但能深深打动孩子的心，更能开发孩子的想象力，让他们创造出自己的诗文。1952年，42岁的玛格丽特在法国旅行途中突然逝世。
克雷门·赫德，1908年出生于纽约。耶鲁大学毕业后，去巴黎学了两年现代绘画，回国后成了一名装饰画家。后来他结识了玛格丽特等儿童文学工作者，并且和其中的一位作家艾达结婚。玛格丽特在看到了他的两幅作品之后，就极力劝说他为图画书画插图，并特意为他写了一个儿童故事《大象和小甲虫》，让他做一次插图上的尝试。他后来和玛格丽特合作的两本睡前故事书——《逃家小兔》《晚安，月亮》，都成了图画书的经典之作。
Margaret Wise Brown, author of Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny, is one of the best-selling children’s book authors of all time. Her unique ability to see the world through a child’s eyes gave a new and enduring dimension to picture-book writing. Clement G. Hurd (January 12, 1908 – February 5, 1988) was an American artist. He is known for illustrations of children’s picture books, especially collaborations with writer Margaret Wise Brown includingGoodnight Moon (1947) andThe Runaway Bunny (1942).
