语言本质上是传递信息的桥梁。信息是主子，语言是助手。如果我们始终以信息作为主体来输入，而把语言作为载体，那么我们会在学到新知识的同时额外地收获语言能力这份大礼；相反，如果我们把语言作为学要目标，时刻定在生词上，而忽略了它所承载的知识，则不但语言传递的知识信息获取不到（光顾着钻牛角尖查生词了步太慢，以至于无法完整吸收一篇文章或语音对话的整体信息），甚至连语音本身的学握也是不深刻的。

所以我们在阅读或听音频时，强调不要遇到生词就停下来查阅，而要“三猜而后行”，先连蒙带猜把整体信息看完，而把生词的查阅学后面单行。
既然语言是附着于知识的，不能把语言孤立出来学应以学为主来附带掌握语言，那么知识应该怎么学呢？显然这就是我们从小到大学学科的思路了，即知识是分门别类的，比如大的方面，有科学、文学、数学、艺术等，小的方面有物理学中的经典力学、数学中的基础运算、文学中的各种修辞和布局谋篇，以及更微观方面的打招呼、礼貌语、化学元素、家居物件等等。也即是说，知识是以“话题”为单位的。这些单位是一个内部互相关联的整体，一环扣一环，而不能把其中某个专有名词单独拿出行背诵，那样是只见树木不见森林，根本解决不了问题。
所以要学，也要以“话题”为单行拓展，将这门语言附着在一个个知识体系上，就像蜘蛛织网一样，互相交织，慢慢延展，建立一个结实而完整生活整体。当然，话题是无穷无尽的，要优先学和自己的生活和工作密切相关的。
