本教材在编写过程中"以服务为宗旨，以就业为导向，走产学结合的发展道路"，独创性地提出将《实用综合英语》的教学目标与学生的就业岗位群技能培养相结合，创立出了"F+1"的教材编写模式。F(Foundation)是指《基本要求》中对高职英语的教学要求，是基础；"1"是指一个职业方向。"F+1"就是"基础+职业方向"。我们按照"以实用为主，以应用为目的"的教学思想，在编写过程中，将与计算机职业方向相关的英语语言知识融入教材中，针对与计算机相关的就业岗位群所需要的英语职业技能训练学生，力图在提高学生基础英语能力的同时，培养学生在实际工作岗位中应用英语的能力。
本教材在每一部分的编写中，始终注意将英语的应用性与职业性进行有机的结合。听说部分以《基本要求》中要求掌握的重点话题为载体，将岗位英语的特定情境融入其中，并加入一些计算机词汇，以培养学生的职业英语应用能力。阅读部分中，篇阅读文章旨在培养学生的阅读能力及训练学生应掌握的重点语言点；第二篇文章选取了与计算机职业相关的阅读材料对学生进行泛读训练，从而拓展学生的词汇量，使其进一步提高英语语感I和交际能力，培养其职业英语应用能力。写作部分为英语应用文写作，有利于培养学生英语应用文写作的能力。后的视野拓展部分，凸显了岗位知识与英语语言的结合，使学生能在相对轻松的英语阅读中了解和掌握计算机的专业知识和前沿技术，增强专业英语阅读能力。
